Regular Visits to the Pediatrician

Regular Visits to the Pediatrician

The well-being and normal development of children cannot be judged by the children themselves or their parents. Many conditions can only be diagnosed and treated by a visit to a pediatrician. A pediatrician is a medical practitioner who is trained or specialized in childcare from newborns to teenagers (mostly up to 18 years). Such a child specialist manages the overall physical and psychological health conditions of the child by diagnosing the disease at an early stage and correcting it before a child becomes seriously ill. It doesn’t mean that only a sick child should consult a pediatrician. Regular appointments with a pediatrician are necessary even for seemingly healthy children to document their growth and development, assess their behavior, and for child’s immunization.

The following points must be considered by a parent while visiting a pediatrician:

  • Don’t use the doctor’s name in front of children as it will instill fear in the child
  • Teach the child that the doctor is a friend who helps them to get well
  • Injections and vaccines are good for their health and must be not be considered punishments
  • Periodical eye and dental check-ups are also important for child overall health and development

Regular, scheduled visits to the doctor assure:

  • Early detection of disease
  • Prevention of disease
  • Promotion of good health
  • Anticipatory guidance
